BAFTA/LA Supports Young British Invasion of U.S. Entertainment

Young Brits can benefit from a new mentoring and networking program as wave of fresh talent floods American big and small screens

Los Angeles, CA, May 8, 2007 - The British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles has responded to the new wave of British talent into the U.S. film and television industries by announcing their new “Under 30s Program.” BAFTA/LA seeks to support their fellow Brits during their relocation and career ascension via mentoring, access to BAFTA/LA members’ screenings, events and seminars, and other networking opportunities.

British thespians Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Matthew Goode and Jamie Bell have been enjoying big-screen success stateside, and now American television networks are picking up on the trend and looking for the next hot new face from the UK.  Rome’s Zuleikha Robinson has been cast in the new Fox pilot The Lone Gunman and Michelle Ryan is playing an American character in the upcoming NBC series The Bionic Woman.  BAFTA/LA salutes this generation of British talent, not only in front of the camera but behind it, and is keen to provide them with a rare opportunity to learn about the necessary tools for advancement in the entertainment industry over a pint or a latte. The program reflects BAFTA/LA’s educational and community outreach initiatives and hopes to encourage the next generation of leaders in their respective fields who may not yet have reached the level of success where they qualify for full voting membership.

The program is open to UK citizens who are under 30, have lived in Southern California for less than two years, and are either students or are employed full-time in film, television or related professions. Applicants are chosen quarterly, with the first deadline being June 30, 2007. Up to 25 candidates will be enrolled, for up to two year s each.
